The Australian government has significantly increased its visa fees for international students, raising the cost by 125%. Starting from July 1, the fee for an international student visa has risen from A$710 to A$1,600.
In addition to the fee hike, new regulations have been introduced. Visitor visa holders and students on temporary graduate visas are now prohibited from applying for a student visa while residing in Australia.
Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil stated that these changes aim to restore integrity to the international education system and create a more equitable migration system.
Recent data has shown a 60% surge in net immigration, reaching a record high of 548,800 people in the year leading up to September 30, 2023. This significant increase highlights the government’s efforts to better manage the influx of international students and other immigrants.
These measures reflect Australia’s commitment to maintaining a robust and fair immigration system while addressing the challenges posed by a growing number of international entrants.
